REDLANDS, Calif. – The Pomona-Pitzer softball team split their double header against Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponent Redlands with a 4-3 win in game one and a 4-0 loss in game two at the Field of Dreams in Redlands, California.
Freshman Liz Rodarte got her third win of the season as she threw seven innings and only gave up three runs on five hits and registered seven strikeouts.
The Sagehens jumped out to an early lead as they scored two runs in the first inning as sophomore Kelsey Buchanan singled through the left side to score senior Aryana Yee and senior Susanne Boden brought home Rodarte on a fielder's choice to give Pomona-Pitzer a 2-0 lead.
Redlands responded with three runs in the bottom of the first as Grace Rose singled up the middle to score one run and Vicki King it a two-run homer to right center to give the Bulldogs a 3-2 lead.
The bats went cold after the first as neither team scored a run for five innings straight. The Sagehens came back in the top of the seventh as sophomore Natalie Ireland singled to right field to bring home sophomore Emily Rockhill to tie the game at 3-3. Junior Bianca Cockrell would drive in the go-ahead run as she doubled to right center to bring home sophomore Haylee Sindt as the Sagehens took a 4-3 lead over Redlands.
Rodarte went out in the seventh and closed out the game for Pomona-Pitzer to seal her third win of the year.
The Bulldogs started out game by getting two runs in the bottom of the first as two RBI singles gave Redlands an early 2-0 lead.
Redlands went on to score two more runs in the bottom of the second as the Bulldogs scored on a fielder's choice and an RBI single by King to take a 4-0 lead after two innings of play.
The Bulldogs tacked on one more in the bottom of the fourth as King hit her second home run of the day to give Redlands a 5-0 lead.
The Sagehens couldn't find the offense in game two as they only registered two hits in the game as the Sagehens fell in game two and split the double header against Redlands.
The Sagehens next take the field as they host Westminster (Mo.) on Wednesday, March 30th at 4:30 p.m. at Wig Beach Field.
