CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Pomona-Pitzer softball team fell in both games of their Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference double header with Claremont-Mudd-Scripps by the scores of 5-0 and 3-0 on Saturday afternoon at Wig Beach Field.
The Sagehens had a hard time scoring runs today against the Athenas as they failed to cross home plate in both games.
The Athenas got on the board in the top of the first as they scored one run on a bases loaded hit by pitch and one more on a passed ball to take a 2-0 lead.
CMS struck again in the top of the second as the Athenas scored on an RBI double and an RBI single to take a 4-0 lead over the Sagehens.
The Athenas tacked on one more in the top of the seventh on another RBI single to take a 5-0 lead and held off the Sagehen offense as CMS took game one of the double header.
The Sagehen offense failed to score in game two as well but ad multiple opportunities to cash in with runners in scoring position.
CMS scored its first runs of the game on an RBI single in the top of the fourth and scored one more in the inning on a sacrifice fly to second base as the runner tagged up on as the Sagehen defense attempted a double play.
The Athenas added an insurance run in the top of the seventh as Halle hit an RBI double to left center to extend the CMS lead to 3-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh.
After getting the win in game one, Anna Gurr stayed on in relief to get the save in game two as CMS completed the season sweep over Pomona-Pitzer.
The Sagehens will next take the field as they host SCIAC opponent Cal Lutheran on Friday, April 22nd at 2:00 p.m.
