CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Pomona-Pitzer softball team swept their season series against Cal Lutheran as they took both games of their double header with a win in game one 2-1 and game two 3-1
Junior Bianca Cockrell played the role of hero in game one as she ended the game with a two-out walk off home run in the bottom of the eighth inning.
The Sagehens jumped on top early in the game as senior Susanne Boden drove a solo shot over the wall to give Pomona-Pitzer a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second.
Freshman Liz Rodarte kept the Regals offense quiet as she only allowed one run through eight innings of play with the only run coming off of an RBI single by Andrea Brack in the top of the fourth. Rodarte fanned 11 Regals and earned her sixth win of the year in game one.
The Sagehens did most of their damage with the long ball today as sophomore Kelsey Buchanan blasted the third home run of the day for the Sagehens as they took an early 2-0 lead over Cal Lutheran.
The Regals responded with a run in the top of the second on an RBI single to right field to cut the lead down to 2-1.
Rodarte also got the start in game two of the double header and went six innings, only gave up one run and tallied eight strikeouts (19 strikeouts total on the day) as she improved to 7-9 on the year. Junior Emily Rockhill relieved Rodarte in the seventh inning and closed the door on the Regals to earn her first save of the year as Pomona-Pizter swept the season series against Cal Lutheran.
The Sagehens next travel to SCIAC opponent Chapman for a double header on Saturday, April 23rd at 12:00 p.m.
