CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Softball program split their conference opener against Cal Lutheran University on Saturday afternoon, winning the first game 8-1 before dropping the finale 4-1.
Season Impact: The Sagehens carry a 3-1 record overall and are 1-1 in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference .

Rodarte picked up where she left off yesterday, throwing six innings, striking out five, and giving up only one run for her second win of the season. The junior also helped her cause with a three-run homerun over left center. Kristen Hong and Olivia Campion put up identical stat lines, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs.
The Sagehens struck in the first inning when Izzy Deatherage hit a laser to right center for an RBI double. With runners on second and third, Natalie Ireland followed with a slapped line drive to right center to bring home two runs and gave the Sagehens a 3-0 lead.
In the top of the second, the Sagehens defense demonstrated savvy alertness. With one out and a runner on first, Regals' Antonia Rapisardi laid down a sacrifice bunt. Campion snuffed out the slow roller and threw Rapisardi at first. Makensey Druckman saw the runner go for third base, and fired the ball over to Ireland who covered Campion at the bag. The runner got caught between second and third for a pickle and was eventually tagged out by Campion.
In the bottom of the fifth, with runners on second and third, Rodarte added some insurance, crushing a ball over left center for a three-run blast, making it 6-0 for the Hens.
The Regals brought one run back in the top of the sixth, bringing in a runner from third off a groundout, but they could not muster a rally to make the game close.
Lilly Weidhaas filled in the seventh and threw a shutout inning, striking out two batters to end the game.

The Regals responded to the opening loss with a solid defensive performance to hold off the Sagehens' bats. Liz Rodarte started again, throwing four innings and surrendering one run, while Brittany Workman threw a complete game for the Regals, giving up one run and striking out three batters.
Cal Lutheran jumped to an early lead, as Olivia Leyva hit an RBI single to bring in a run. Later in the fourth inning and bases loaded, Michelle Calcany Blair tied the game for the Hens in the fourth inning after hitting a sacrifice fly to advance the runner home. However, the Sagehens couldn't capitalize on the run-scoring opportunity to take the lead.
Cal Lutheran loaded the bases in the top of the fifth inning, and slapped two consecutive RBI singles to take back the lead 3-1. The Regals later slapped an RBI single in the final inning for insurance and held on for the win.
