Softball: Sagehens Open Spring Trip With 8-3 Win Over Suffolk

CLERMONT, FL. – The Pomona-Pitzer Softball team opened up their spring break with an 8-3 win over Suffolk on Wednesday morning at Hancock Park.

Season impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 9-3 overall.

The Sagehens were led by Izzy Deatherage who went a perfect 3-3 in the win with four RBI's and one run scored. Alondra Reynoso got the win in the circle today as she went 5.0 innings of shutout softball with six hits and three strikeouts.

The Sagehens wasted no time getting ahead in today's game as they plated four runners in the first two innings. Liz Rodarte got the Sagehens on the board in the first with an RBI single to center while Oliva Campion brought home Baleigh McCuskey in the second with an RBI single and Detherage brought home two more with an RBI double to take a 4-0 lead over Suffolk.

Rodarte notched another RBI in the bottom of the fourth on a fielder's choice that brought in Kristen Hong and Karina Falkstrom singled homed Rodarte to push the Sagehens' lead to 6-0.

Suffolk got on the scoreboard in the top of the sixth three runs in the inning but the Sagehens responded with a two-run homer by Detherage to extend the lead to 8-3 heading into the seventh.

Pomona-Pitzer stayed solid in the seventh and held off the Rams to secure the first win of their spring trip.
