Wheaton Stays Hot, Pulls Past Pomona-Pitzer

Claremont, Calif. - Wheaton (Ill.) had 22 points from Brooke Olson as it improved to 7-1 with a 79-43 win over Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday evening.

Wheaton assisted on 25 of its 33 baskets and outrebounded the Sagehens 45-29 on its way to the win. Pomona-Pitzer, which was led by eight points, on 3-5 shooting, and five rebounds from sophomore forward Maria Weyhrauch (Juneau, Alaska - pictured) falls to 0-6 on the year.

The last four opponents the Sagehens have played have had a combined two losses between them coming in. Redlands and Chapman were both undefeated at the time, while Cal Lutheran and Wheaton had one loss apiece.

Pomona-Pitzer hung close for a half, as it trailed just 34-23 at the break, but Wheaton used a 16-2 run to go ahead 55-29 with 10:19 left and was able to cruise from there.

Junior guard Erin Edmonds (Salem, Ore.) tied Weyhrauch for team-high honors with eight points, while senior guard Alexis Sones (Los Angeles, Calif.) had a game-high five assists.

Pomona-Pitzer will be back in action on Friday when it hosts Hope International for a 7:30 p.m. contest before taking two weeks off for the holiday break.
