Cal Lutheran Pulls Away From Sagehens In Second Half

Thousand Oaks, Calif. - The Cal Lutheran Women's Basketball team used a big second half to capture its 20th win of the season and defeat Pomona-Pitzer 61-36 on Saturday.

The Regals improve to 20-3 overall and 12-2 in the SCIAC with the win, while Pomona-Pitzer falls to 5-15 overall and 4-9 in league play with the loss.

The Sagehens put up a strong fight against the league-leading Regals early, and took a 13-12 lead with eight minutes left in the first half on a jumper from freshman forward Alice Timken (Albany, Calif.).

Timken hit another jumper with 6:01 left in the first stanza to make the score 19-18 in favor of Cal Lutheran, but the Regals closed out the first half on a 9-1 run to take a 28-19 lead into the break.

Cal Lutheran then started the second half on a 9-0 run to pull ahead 37-19 on a Channing Fleischmann jumper, ending an 18-1 run spanning both halves, to put the game away.

Fleischmann was the only player for either team to score in double figures as she finished with 16 points on the day, while Starla Wright had eight points and 11 rebounds. Pomona-Pitzer was led by freshman forward Amelia Hummel (Glenview, Ill. - pictured) with nine, while freshman forward Jenn Okonkwo (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) added eight points and eight rebounds.

Pomona-Pitzer will be back in action on Thursday when it hosts its final home game of the year against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at 7:30 p.m.
