Claremont, Calif. - The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Basketball team went on a 14-0 run late in the second half to pull away for a 56-46 win over Cal Lutheran on Thursday evening in the SCIAC opener for both teams.
With the win, the Sagehens improve to 2-4 overall and 1-0 in the SCIAC, while Cal Lutheran slips to 2-2 overall and 0-1 in the SCIAC. Sophomore forward Jenn Okonkwo had 14 points and eight rebounds, while freshmen Basha Brulee-Wills and Alaina Woo (pictured) each had 10 points.

Okonkwo started the run with a lay-up off a nice feed from Brulee-Wills after a press break, and freshman Kacie Hitomi capped it off with a driving layup.
Cal Lutheran came back with a late 11-1 run to make the score 54-46, but it was too little too late, as the Sagehens wrapped it up on a pair of foul shots from junior guard Ruthie Shapiro.
Pomona-Pitzer was down 25-15 with 1:45 left in the first half, but used an 11-0 run over both halves to take the lead. Okonkwo had two foul foul shots, and Woo had a steal and breakaway layup with 10 seconds left in the half to make the score 25-19. Freshman Mary-Clare Bosco then hit a three-pointer on the first possession of the second half to pull the Sagehens within 25-22, and Woo added a layup off an offensive rebound to bring Pomona-Pitzer all the way back.
Hitomi was 3-3 from the floor for six points off the Sagehen bench to support the double figure scoring of Okonkwo, Brulee-Wills and Woo. Cal Lutheran did not have a player in double figures, as it was led by Sofia Cruz and Chelsea Jacoby with nine points each and Jessica Salottolo with eight.
Pomona-Pitzer will be back in action on Saturday when it travels to Caltech for a 7 p.m. contest.
