Cal Lutheran's Quick Start The Difference In 76-67 Win

Thousand Oaks, Calif. - The Cal Lutheran Women's Basketball team jumped out to a 15-4 lead in the first four minutes and held the lead the rest of the way as it captured a 76-67 win over Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday evening at Gilbert Arena.

The win improves Cal Lutheran to 10-9 overall and 6-5 in the SCIAC on the season, while Pomona-Pitzer falls to 6-12 overall and 4-7 in league play.

Chelsea Jacoby had 11 points in the opening 15-4 run and assisted on the other two baskets to help get the Regals off and running. The Sagehens got back within six points at 16-10 and got to within seven points at 36-29 after scoring the first two baskets of the second half.

However, Cal Lutheran answered with a 14-3 run to take its largest lead at 50-32 on back-to-back three-pointers from Keeley Anderson. The Sagehens regrouped, as sophomore forward Jenn Okonkwo had a lay-up and two foul shots to kick-start a 9-0 run to make the score 50-41, but Cal Lutheran was able to score the next five points to open the lead back up to 14 with 9:57 left on another Anderson three-pointer.

Freshman forward Basha Brulee-Wills made the score 68-61 on a lay-up with 2:07 left, but the Sagehens could get no closer.

Brulee-Wills finished with 14 points and 13 rebounds, Okonkwo had 14 points and nine rebounds and freshman guard Kacie Hitomi (pictured) added 11 points on 5-7 shooting. Anderson led all scorers with 17 for Cal Lutheran, while Jacoby ended with 16 after her quick start.

Pomona-Pitzer returns to action on Thursday when it hosts Whittier for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
