Sagehens Fight Back In Second Half, But Fall To Occidental

Claremont, Calif. - The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Basketball team trailed by 21 late in the first half and got as close as six points before falling to Occidental 71-58 on Saturday evening.

With the loss, the Sagehens end their season at 8-16 overall and 6-10 in the SCIAC, while Occidental closes out at 13-12 and 7-9 in league play.

Jenn Okonkwo had 23 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Sagehens, while Basha Brulee-Wills (pictured) added 17, including three three-pointers in the second half to help fuel Pomona-Pitzer's comeback. However, after they had the score down to 49-43, Occidental hit two three-pointers in an 8-0 run to take control again.

Elizabeth Messick had 15 points and nine blocks for Occidental, while Ashton Reid had 13 points. Alaina Woo was also in double figures for the Sagehens with 11 points.

Pomona-Pitzer returns its entire team next season as it played without any seniors this winter. The team will in fact have only two seniors next year, as Ruthie Shapiro and Maria Weyhrauch were the only juniors this season.
