LA VERNE, Calf. – The Pomona-Pitzer women's basketball team snapped their three game Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference win streak with a 66-56 loss at La Verne on Tuesday night.
La Verne was led by Emily Myers who collected 14 points for the Leopards. Noelle Cobb chipped in with 12.
The Sagehens got off to a slow start as the Leopards jumped out to a 14-4 run that forced Pomona-Pitzer to call its first timeout with 2:59 remaining in the first quarter.
La Verne pushed its lead to 20-6 before Pomona-Pitzer responded with a 14-3 run in the second quarter that cut the Leopards' lead down to 23-20 with 7:35 remaining before halftime.
Despite the Sagehens' comeback, the Leopards hung on to the lead and went into the locker room up 25-22. Brulee-Wills led Pomona-Pitzer with 14 points at the half.
The Sagehens came out in the second half and continued to gain ground on the Leopards and eventually took their first lead of the game at 30-29 after a Hooke layup with 5:53 remaining in the third quarter.
The Leopards responded by closing out the quarter on a 19-12 run and went into the fourth with a 48-42 lead.
The Sagehens threatened late in the fourth quarter but could not complete the comeback as La Verne handed Pomona-Pitzer its third SCIAC loss of the season.
The Sagehens continue SCIAC play as they next host Occidental on Saturday, January 23rd at 4 p.m.
