CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Pomona-Pitzer women's basketball team fell to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps for the second time this season by the score of 67-48 on Thursday night at the Linde Activities Center.
The Athenas were led by Kailee Severt who tallied a game-high 17 points. Mara Falahee collected a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds.
The Sagehens struggled from the floor against CMS as they only converted on 27.8% of their shots from the floor.
CMS jumped out to a 17-3 lead to start out the first quarter. Severt tallied seven points in the first quarter alone as the Athenas outscored the Sagehens 19-6 in the first.
The Athenas continued to keep their foot on the gas and played solid defense against the Sagehens as they held Pomona-Pitzer to only 15 points in the half as they went into the locker room with a 38-15 advantage.
Pomona-Pitzer fought back in the second half as the Sagehens shot much better from the floor than they did in the first half.
The Sagehens would go on to outscore the Athenas in the second half 33-29 but dug themselves too big of a hole in the first half as they fell in both games of the Sixth Street Rivalry to CMS.
The Sagehens continue SCIAC play on Saturday, February 20th at 7:30 p.m. as they host La Verne. Head coach Kathy Connell will be honored before the game and there will be a reception held after in the Rains Center.
