CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Basketball team fell to non-conference opponent Bowdoin 87-53 on Friday night at Voelkel Gymnasium.
Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens drop to 0-10 overall on the season and Bowdoin improves to 9-1.
The Sagehens were led by sophomore Alaina Woo who tallied a game-high 14 points. Sophomore Naomi Baer came off the bench with a career-high 12 points. Also in double digits was sophomore Anita Romero who had 12 points and five rebounds.
The Polar Bears were led by Abigail Kelly who came off the bench with a team-high 13 points. Also in double digits for the Bears was Cordelia Stewart with 12 and Marle Curle and Lauren Petit each with 10.
Bowdoin got off of a hot start against the Sagehens as they opened up the game on an 11-4 run. The Sagehens quickly regrouped and went on 12-2 run and led 16-13 after a Woo three-pointer with 2:27 left in the first quarter.
The Sagehens stayed on top of the Polar Bears and ended the first quarter with a 19-18 lead.
Bowdoin was able to reclaim the lead in the second quarter as the Polar Bears opened up the quarter on a 15-7 run to take a 33-26 lead with 3:50 left in the half.
The Sagehens chipped away at the Bowdoin lead with some late baskets and only trailed the Polar Bears 40-36 heading into the half.
The Polar Bears came out in the second half and was able to cool off the Pomona-Pitzer offense as they held the Sagehens' offense to just 17 points in the second half.
The Polar Bears controlled the paint against the Sagehens as they did most of their damage inside the key. Bowdoin outscored Pomona-Pitzer 50-16 in the paint and the Bowdoin bench accounted for 52 of their 87 points.
