CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Basketball team fell to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Occidental 72-43 on Saturday afternoon at Voelkel Gymnasium
Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens drop to 0-15 on the year and 0-7 in conference play while Occidental improved to 10-7 overall and 6-2 in the SCIAC this season.
The Sagehens were led by senior Kacie Hitomi who had a team-high 11 points in the loss. Senior Alaina Woo tallied nine points while sophomore Keilani Ikehara and sophomore Naomi Baer each tallied eight.
The Tigers were led by Shariah Green who tallied a game-high 16 points and nine rebounds in the win for Occidental. Also in double digits was Triana Anderson with 12 and Tala Ismail with 11.
Occidental came out in the first quarter and jumped out to a 9-0 run to start the game and forced the Sagehens to call a timeout with 7:37 left in the quarter.
The Tigers' defense proved to be troublesome for the Sagehens in the first quarter as they only converted on three of their 17 shot attempts.
Pomona-Pitzer battled back in the second half of the first but the Tigers were able to hold a 24-7 lead to start the second quarter.
The Sagehens defense stepped up in the second quarter as they held Occidental to 13 points and were only outscored by two as they trailed 37-18 at the half.
Pomona-Pitzer's offense struggled to score points against the Tigers' defense as the Sagehens only converted three baskets from beyond the arc in the game and shot 26% from the field.
Occidental did most of its damage in the key as the Tigers outscored the Sagehens 38-18 inside the paint.
