
ST. LOUIS, MO. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Basketball team fell to non-conference opponent Austin College 71-48 on Friday afternoon at the WU Field House.
Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens drop to 1-4 overall.
The Sagehens were led by junior Anita Romero who had a team-high 13 points and nine rebounds. Freshman Renae Tamura notched her first collegiate double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds and freshman Alexa Bayangos chipped in with eight points.
Pomona-Pitzer got off to a rocky start in the first quarter as the Roos opened up the first on a 24-4 run and ended the first quarter with a 27-13 lead.
The Sagehens cut down the deficit to 16 points after Anya Quig made a layup to bring the lead down to 36-20 but Pomona-Pitzer still found themselves down at the half, 39-20.
The shorthanded Sagehen squad ended the fourth outscoring the Roos in the quarter 15-13 but Austin College's first-half lead was too much for the Sagehens to overcome as they fell in game one of the McWilliams Tournament.
