CHINO HILLS, CA. – At the conclusion of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament, the No. 12 Pomona-Pitzer Women's Golf Team took fifth place on Tuesday afternoon with a combined scored of 959 strokes. It was a tight contest as the Sagehens, along with three other schools were chasing second place, but Pomona-Pitzer came six strokes short from taking runners-up. However, the Sagehens did enough to hold second place in the SCIAC Final standings after combining their Tournament score with the prior two conference matches. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps finished the day as the SCIAC Champion at 900 strokes while Margaret Loncki of CMS took the individual title.
Sophia Hui posted the lowest stroke total among the Hens, finishing tied for eighth after shooting 76 in the third round, including two birdies in the front nine. She closed the tournament with 233 strokes total. Andi Chaloult shot 80 in the final round with an eagle in the fourth hole to finish at 238 to end the day tied for 14th.
Freshman Gabrielle Herzig was tied for 19th after shooting 79 in the final round, closing the tournament with 244 strokes. Priscilla Ki shot 83 in the final day to finish with 244 strokes, tying with Herzig at 19th to end the tournament.
"I expect a lot of good things from this group of women," said Interim Head Coach Javier Bazurto. "Their focus on the game is strong despite being a young team. They had a lot of pressure put on them at the SCIAC Final, but they handled it very well. I'm proud of them and they played their best."
The Sagehens will await the NCAA's decision on an at-large big for the NCAA Championships on April 30th at 3 p.m. PST. The National Championship will take place at Howie-In-The-Hills, Florida from May 8th to 11th.
