Redlands Holds Off Sagehens For 12-6 Win

Redlands, Calif. - The Redlands Women's Lacrosse team built an early 6-1 lead and held off a Pomona-Pitzer rally to capture a 12-6 win on Wednesday evening.

With the win, Redlands opens up the year 2-0, while the Sagehens start out 0-2 after falling to Chapman on Saturday on opening day.

Junior Jana London (Chevy Chase, Md. - pictured) led Pomona-Pitzer with three goals, while junior Logan Galansky (Denver, Colo.) added two. Jacky Craycraft led Redlands with three goals, while three players tied with two.

London tied the score 1-1 early on a free position shot, but Redlands scored the next five goals to take a 6-1 lead with 9:24 left in the first half on an Allie Hoffler free position shot. Galansky answered with a free position shot with 3:14 left, before London pulled the Sagehens within 6-3 with 1:45 left in the half.

Molly Eckert closed out the half with a goal to give Redlands a 7-3 lead heading into the break, but London scored just 2:41 into the second half, and freshman Aubrey Douglass (Piedmont, Calif.) scored with 23:54 left to get Pomona-Pitzer within two goals at 7-5.

However, the Redlands defense turned up a notch and did not allow another goal until Galansky tallied her second with 1:34 to make the score 11-6. Eckert started a 4-0 run with a goal just 49 seconds after Douglass scored for the Sagehens, and Samantha Keary capped off the run with 5:07 left to give the Bulldogs an 11-5 lead.

Junior goalie Casey Leek (Bucharest, Romania) had nine saves for Pomona-Pitzer, while Ana Martinez had seven for Redlands.

The Sagehens return to action on Saturday for a home game at 2 p.m. against Occidental at the South Athletic Complex (above the parking garage).
