LAX: Sagehens Set To Begin 2019 Season

CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Lacrosse team is ready to begin its  2019 season as they open up on the road against Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Redlands on Wednesday night.

Last Season:

The Sagehens ended 2018 at 11-8 overall and 5-5 in SCIAC play and ended the regular season in third place earning a trip to the SCIAC Postseason Tournament. Pomona-Pitzer earned a 17-15 victory in the SCIAC Semifinals before falling in the SCIAC Championship game.

Returners:

The Sagehens bring back three impactful seniors to help lead them in 2019 in Lilly Thomey, Lauren English and Nicole Larson.  Thomey will lead the attack for the Sagehens as the senior earned Second Team all-West honors a season ago with a team-high 60 points and finished fourth in the conference with 51 goals. The defense will be led by seniors Larson and English as Larson earned Second Team All-SCIAC last season and English earned First Team All-SCIAC during her sophomore season.

Four juniors fill out the upperclass for the Sagehens with attackers Eileen Mahler and Sonia Olson, defender Sammy Little and goalie Annie Price. Olson finished third on the team in points last season with 47 while Mahler tallied seven points in six games. Little will see time on the back line this season coming off of a Second Team All-SCIAC year while First Team All-SCIAC goal keeper Price will see big minutes in goal coming off of a 9-8 year with 206 saves.

Pomona-Pitzer returns a large sophomore class with seven returners from a season ago. Among them is midfielder Sarah Woo. Woo earned First Team All-West and First Team All-SCIAC last season as she finished second on the team in points with 54 coming from 33 goals and 21 assists. Fellow sophomore midfielder Kate Immergluck will be a strong presence in the middle of the field this season after scoring 40 points a season ago earning Second Team All-SCIAC in the process.

Woo and Immergluck will be accompanied in the midfield by the sophomore twin duo of Lily Hermann and Thyra Hermann while Emma Sheridan, Morgan Prinz and Belle Buroker will work their way into the defense this season.

Newcomers:

The Sagehens also bring in a large incoming class as 14 new faces join the roster. With the addition of five attackers in Zoe Puccia, Jessalyn Simon-Parker, Eleanor Mackey, Ellie Kruse and Steffi Larson. Midfielders Sarah Casey, Leah Haverkamp, Kiera Havill and Maggie Sweeney. Defenders Riley Knowles, Asaka Mori and Michaela Fogarty as well as goalie Emily Vomvas.

The Sagehens begin their season on the road against Redlands before coming back for their home opener on Saturday, February 23rd at 11:00 a.m.
