LAX: Woo Nets Five Goals As Sagehens Leave Whittier With 18-7 Win

WHITTIER, CA. – Sophomore Sarah Woo nets five goals as the Pomona-Pitzer Women's Lacrosse team defeated Southern California Intercollegiate athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Whittier 18-7 on Wednesday night at Memorial Stadium.

Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 3-0 overall and 3-0 in conference play.

The Sagehens were led by Woo who notched a season-high five goals in the win. Junior Annie Price got the start in goal and the win for the Sagehens with seven saves and first-year Emily Vomvas started in the second have and tallied two saves for the Sagehens.

 Both teams struggled to find the back of the net in the first half with the first goal coming almost seven minutes in. The Sagehens then broke out on offense with six-straight goals in the next 12 minutes. Sophomore Lily Herrmann got the first goal of the day for the Sagehens followed by sophomore Kate Immergluck and Woo to give the Sagehens a 3-0 lead.  Pomona-Pitzer kept their streak going as first-year Jessalyn Simon-Parker netted her first goal of the night followed by two more from Woo to cap off a 6-0 run by the Sagehens.

Whittier broke up the scoring streak with its first goal of the night but Pomona-Pitzer ended the half with three answered goal by first-year Eleanor Mackey, Simon-Parker and Woo to head into halftime with a 9-1 lead.

Pomona-Pitzer began the second half with a goal by sophomore Thyra Herrmann before the Poets scored on back-to-back goals to cut the lead down to 10-3. Pomona-Pitzer came back with five-straight goals from Lily Herrmann, two from first-year Maggie Sweeney, Woo and Mackey to extend the lead to 15-3 over the Poets.

The Sagehens added three more goals as first-year Steffi Larson, senior Lilly Thomey and first-year Zoe Puccia found the back of the net for the first time as the Sagehens cruised to a 18-7 win on the road.
