ORANGE, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Lacrosse team maintained their unbeaten run in the 2019 season, taking down Chapman University on the road on a rainy Saturday afternoon 18-7. Sarah Woo led the team with four goals while Eleanor Mackey added three goals. Despite the pouring rain, Maggie Sweeney did an outstanding job maintaining possession, picking up a team-high five ground balls. The Sagehens' offense controlled the game taking 31 shots while the defense held Chapman to only 13 attempts. The visiting side also won the draw control battle 15-8 and out-scooped the Panthers in the groundballs 33-25.
Season Impact: The Sagehens are now 4-0 overall and in SCIAC play.
Maggie Sweeney scored the opening goal off a pass by Jessalyn Simon-Parker jut 30 seconds into the game. Sarah Woo netted twice within the opening eight minutes to give the Sagehens a 3-0 lead. Alex Callaway of Chapman got the Panthers their first goal with 17:23 left in the half, but the Sagehens' offense broke out with a big 4-0 run, in which four different players found the back of the net. The Sagehens led 9-3 at halftime.
Woo and Immergluck opened up the scoring early in the second half within the opening minute and Lilly Thomey converted a free position with 26:58 left in the game to extend the lead 12-3. The Sagehens' defense tried to keep the Panthers' attack at bay, limiting only two goals over a 20-minute span. With 13:47 left in the game, the Sagehens broke out on a 3-0 run, with two goals by Mackey. The Panthers never got back, failing to string a rally as the Sagehens clinched the lopsided victory.
