CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Lacrosse team defeated non-conference opponent Oberlin 14-7 on Thursday night at the South Athletics complex.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 9-2 overall.
The Sagehens were led by sophomore Sarah Woo who tallied a game-high four goals in the win. First-year Maggie Sweeney and sophomore Lily Herrmann also tallied hat-tricks with three goals each. Junior Annie Price picked up her ninth win of the season in goal for the Sagehens with six saves in the win.
The Sagehens' defense showed up to play against the Yeowomen as they caused 28 turnovers in the game and held Oberlin to just seven goals. Oberlin got out to an early start as they scored the first goal of the game to take their only lead of the night at 1-0. Pomona-Pitzer responded with five-straight goals to mount a big lead midway through the first. Sweeney got the scoring going for the Sagehens off of an assist from fellow first-year Jessalyn Simon-Parker and Woo and first-year Eleanor Mackey followed up with two goals each to take a 5-1 lead.
The Sagehens and Yeowomen alternated goals to end the half with Herrmann picking up two of her three goals of the night to give the Sagehens a 7-3 lead at halftime.
Pomona-Pitzer came out of the half and picked up right where they left off as they opened up with the first three goals to take a 10-7 lead after goals from Herrmann sophomore Kate Immergluck and Woo. Oberlin came back with four of the next five goals to cut the lead down to just four goals at 11-7 but Pomona-Pitzer ended the game with three goals as Sweeney netted two and Woo ended the night with a goal off of an assist from first-year Ellie Kruse to cap off their ninth win of the season.
