CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Lacrosse team ended their regular season with a 20-11 win over Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Chapman on Wednesday night at the South Athletics Complex.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 12-3 overall and 7-3 in conference play and lock up the No. 2 seed in the upcoming SCIAC Postseason Tournament.
The Sagehens were led by senior Lilly Thomey who netted six goals in the win. Two other Sagehens also tallied hat-tricks as the Herrmann family combined for six goals with Thyra Herrmann and Lily Herrmann netting three goals each in the win.
A big second half was the main difference for the Sagehens against Chapman as they totaled 14 goals in the second half with the Panthers only scoring 11 for the entire game. However, the Panthers kept it close in the second half and got out to a 2-1 lead to start the game. But the Sagehens responded with five-straight goals as the Herrmann sisters each netted two goals and one more from sophomore Sarah Woo to take a 6-2 lead with 12:53 remaining.
Chapman ended the first half with the final two goals and cut the lead down to two at 6-4 heading into halftime but it did not take long for the Sagehens to reestablish a lead as they opened up the second half with goals from first-years Sarah Casey and Zoe Puccia and sophomore Kate Immergluck to take a 9-4 lead.
The Panthers responded again with four-straight goals to climb back into the game at 9-8, but the Sagehens' offense took off as they netted 10 of the next 11 goals led by six second half goals from Thomey to blow the game wide open at 19-9.
Chapman added two late goals in the second half but Thyra Herrmann ended the game with a goal to complete her hat-trick as the Sagehens ended the regular season on a high note with a big win over Chapman.
