Tao Haunts Occidental Again In 4-1 Sagehen Win

Los Angeles, Calif. - For the second year in a row, junior forward Allie Tao (Alamo, Calif.) had an offensive explosion to lead the Pomona-Pitzer Women's Soccer team to a road win over Occidental.

Tao finished with two goals and one assist as the Sagehens defeated Occidental 4-1 to improve to 3-4 overall and 2-3 in the SCIAC. Occidental falls to 1-6 overall and 0-5 in the SCIAC with the loss.

Last year, Tao had three goals and an assist as the Sagehens earned a 4-3 win at Occidental, holding on after the Tigers scored twice in the final 10 minutes. This year, sophomore Rachel Brownell (Atherton, Calif.) scored her first collegiate goal with just over 10 minutes to play, and Tao added her second of the day with just under five minutes left to turn a close 2-1 contest into a 4-1 win.

Tao helped the Sagehens get off to a quick start as she assisted on the game's first goal from sophomore forward Sam Thompson (Huntington Beach, Calif.) at the 8:22 mark, as sophomore midfielder Nicole Quilliam (Menlo Park, Calif.) also had an assist on the play. Then, just 3:10 later, Tao struck for the first of her two goals to put the Sagehens ahead 2-0 before the game was even 12 minutes old.

Occidental was able to pull back within 2-1 at the 25:38 mark on a goal from Karina Garcia and stayed within one goal until Brownell's key insurance goal with 10:11 left in regulation.

Annie Wedel (Trabuco Canyon, Calif.) had two saves in goal to get the win for the Sagehens, who outshot Occidental 14-7 on the day.

Pomona-Pitzer returns to action on Saturday with a pivotal road game at Redlands as it tries to get back to .500 in SCIAC play.
