Women's Soccer Picks Up Key Road Win Over Chapman

Orange, Calif. - The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Soccer team received goals from three different players as it picked up a key SCIAC road win 3-0 over Chapman on Saturday evening.

With the win, the Sagehens improve to 8-5-4 overall and 6-2-4 in the SCIAC and take a big step towards earning a berth in the SCIAC Tournament. Pomona-Pitzer is currently in third place with two games to go, and the top four receive bids to the conference playoffs, with the Sagehens only needing one more win to clinch a bid. Chapman falls to 7-8-2 overall and 3-7-2 in the SCIAC with the loss.

Freshman Abby Onderwyzer Gold got the Sagehens on the board first in the 20th minute with an unassisted goal, her second goal of the week after also getting the tying one in a 1-1 draw with Cal Lutheran on Wednesday.

The score held until the second half, when senior Amanda Coba (pictured) found the back of the net off a pass from freshman Natasha Thornton-Clark with 25:57 left to play. The Sagehens added an insurance goal seven minutes later, as freshman Sofia Barsher scored to make the score 3-0.

Junior goalie Annie Wedel had three saves to get the shutout in net for the Sagehens, who held a 12-6 advantage in shots on the day.

Pomona-Pitzer is back in action on Wednesday when it travels to Whittier with a chance to clinch a postseason bid.
