CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Soccer team opened up their 2016 regular season with a 3-0 win over UC Santa Cruz on Friday night at the Pomona-Pitzer Soccer Field.
The Sagehens had a dominating performance in their opening match as they were able to display some high-powered offense and maintain possession for the majority of the match.
The Sagehens doubled their lead in the 44th minute as sophomore Peri Cuppens curved in a ball from the top left corner of the box to take a 2-0 lead just before halftime.
The final goal of the match came just 1:54 into the second half as freshman Brianna Lau scored her first collegiate goal as she settled a rebound and snuck in a shot past the Banana Slug's goalie to extend the Pomona-Pitzer lead to 3-0.
The Sagehens' offense had the advantage in today's game as Pomona-Pitzer outshot UC Santa Cruz 24-8 and tallied eight more corner kicks than the Banana Slugs.
Pomona-Pitzer will continue its non-conference schedule as they host Whitman on Sunday, September 4th at 11:00 a.m.
