KANSAS CITY, MO. – The United Soccer Coaches (USC) named Sarah Jones of the Pomona-Pitzer Women's Soccer team to the Women's Scholar All-American Third Team and All-West Region Team on Monday for her combined excellence in the classroom and on the soccer field. The All-Scholar Teams are selected under the criteria of the student-athlete having at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average, starting in more than 50 percent of all games, playing at an elite level, and being a junior or above. This is the third straight season Pomona-Pitzer Women's Soccer had a student-athlete earn an All-American honor. In 2016, Nadia Alaiyan was named USC and D3soccer.com All-American while Corey Goelz also took D3soccer.com All-American. In the following season, Abby Onderwyzer Gold was named USC Scholar All-American.
Sarah Jones already was named to the First Team All-West Region Team earlier this season after becoming one of the best defenders in the SCIAC and helping the Sagehens to 11 shutouts. A chemistry major, the senior excelled in the classroom since transferring in from University of Portland.
"Such a well-deserved honor for Sarah, who truly epitomizes what it means to excel as a student-athlete at the highest level of Division III soccer," said Head Coach Jennifer Scanlon. "She has been a leader since the first day she joined our program, showcasing what it takes to enjoy success both on the soccer field and in the classroom. She has been truly impactful during her two years on the team and on the Pomona College campus."
