Women's Swim & Dive: Tri-Meet Ends With Sagehens Domination

LA VERNE, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Swim & Dive Team continue to roll through their conference meets, defeating Chapman University and University of La Verne at Las Flores Park. The Sagehens outscored the Panthers and the Leopards, putting up 106 points while Chapman and La Verne scored 54 and 9, respectively. Anna Newman won three events as the Sagehens took first place in 13 events.

Over in the competition pool, the Sagehens kicked off the swimming portion of the meet with a win in the 200 Yard Medley Relay, as the Sagehens' A Team featuring Angela Ling, Hannah Robertson, Hannah Zurmuhl, and Emily Brooks took first at 1:51.52. The C Team comprised of Tori Agostini, Alex Werner, Maddie Kauahi, and Anabelle Farnham finished right behind at 1:52.04. Over in the distance events, Kirsten Mortimer finished at the top in the 1000 Freestyle at 11:14.46. Later, Anna Newman took first in the 500 Freestyle at 5:24.64. She also won the 200 Butterfly at 2:10.61 and the 400 Individual Medley at 4:47.01.

Farnham won the 200 Freestyle convincingly at 1:59.62, just 1.36 seconds ahead of second-place Molly Davis of Chapman. In the short distance races, Hannah Zurmuhl finished in first in the 100 Backstroke at 59.80 and Alex Gill later won the 100 Breaststroke in a close race at 1:07.39, just .15 seconds ahead of second-place Alex Werner. Kate Denend seized the 50 Freestyle at 24.78 seconds and followed up with a 100 Freestyle victory at 53.57.

The Sagehens continued to roll through the 200 Backstroke as Angela Ling and Sarah Jin took first and second, respectively at 2:11.57 and 2:13.06. Later in the 100 Butterfly, Kauahi finished first after clocking in at 57.52 while Allison Liu followed in second at 59.47.

In the final event of the afternoon, the Sagehens cruised to a first, second, and third place finish in the 400 Freestyle Relay as the A Team comprised of Denend, Dao, Liu, Zurmuhl won with a time of 3:36.85. The B Team (Kwan, Mortimer, Jin, and Kauahi) took second at 3:42.66, and the C Team (Ling, Mariah Bowman, Emily Brooks, and Farnham) clocked in at 3:46.54.
