GREENSBORO, NC. – The Pomona-Pitzer Swim & Dive Team continued to hold down their top-15 positions for men's and women's in the second day of the NCAA Swim & Dive Championship in Greensboro, North Carolina. The women concluded the second day with 93 points for sixth place while the men sit in 12th with 66 points. The women's side delivered two All-American performances, taking fifth overall in the 200 Freestyle Relay and in the 400 Medley Relay.
Hannah Zurmuhl, Allison Liu, Kate Denend, and Maddie Kauahi kicked off the day with a fourth-place finish in the 200-Yard Freestyle Relay preliminaries with a time of 1:34.19. They went on to take fifth in the final at 1:34.05, setting the school record in the event.
In the Men's 200 Freestyle Relay, Lukas Ming Menkhoff, Nicholas Borowsky, Will Abele, and Ryan Drover combined with a 15th place finish in the preliminaries with a time of 1:22.95. They took fifth in the consolation final (13th overall) with a time of 1:22.98.
Jason Lu competed in the 400 Individual Medley, taking 13th in the prelims with a time of 3:56.25. He went on to place fifth (13th overall) in the consolation final at 3:56.67.
Over at the Men's 200 Freestyle, Will Abele barely missed the cut for the final round, takin ninth overall in the prelims at 1:38.90. He later went on to take third in the consolation final (11th overall) with a time of 1:39.38.
The women's 400 Medley Relay team took fifth overall in the final with a time of 3:45.10. They finished fourth in the prelims at 3:45.39.
Nikhil Kundu, Menkhoff, Drover, and Abele took 11th in the 400 Medley Relay preliminaries at 3:19.31, but went on to win the consolation final (9th overall) with a time of 3:16.80.
Up Next: The Sagehens will compete again tomorrow for the third day of the NCAA Swim & Dive Championship. The preliminaries will start at 7:00 a.m. PST and the Finals at 3:00 p.m. PST.
