
CLAREMONT, CA. – The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference named Maria Lyven of the Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis Team the SCIAC Athlete of the Week after her outstanding performances at the Malibu Invite this past Sunday. The first year showed why Pomona-Pitzer was No. 4 in the nation, helping the team go 2-0 on Sunday with a 7-2 victory over No. 18 Sewanee and 8-1 over Babson.
Against Sewanee, Lyven worked with Margherita Andreassi to win no. 1 doubles over Ellie Czura and Catherine Owen 8-5. She later defeated Czura in no. 2 singles 6-3 and 6-2.
The Kyiv-native later combined with Andreassi again in no. 1 doubles against Babson defeating Alexa Tutecky and Nastasia Tamarkin 8-5.
The first year is currently 8-3 in singles and 7-5 in doubles this season.
