Another New Relay Record Falls In Dual With Occidental

Los Angeles, Calif. - The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Track team set a school record in the 4x1600 relay and Erin Delaria (pictured) set a personal best in the pole vault for the third straight week in the track program's annual dual with Occidental.

The two teams still have to complete the distance events next week to finish the dual, but Pomona-Pitzer holds a 77-51 side on the women's side and an 87-44 lead on the men's side. The Sagehens face Occidental in track every year, with the winning team (combining both men's and women's scores) earning a banner.

Delaria's pole vault was 10 feet, six inches, which is the third highest vault in Sagehen history. The 4x1600 team consisted of Lauren Collins (5:40), Claire Brickson (5:22), Naomi Wagner (5:42) and Annie Lydens (5:23), as they combined for a 22:09.39, easily breaking the old mark of 23:22.3, set in 1993.

The 4x100 relay team moved up to No. 6 all-time in Sagehens history with a 50.09, just missing coming in under the 50-second mark. Katie Barton, Leslie Rice, Ailene Nguyen and Joyce Nimocks defeated the Occidental team by over a second.

Ellen Yamasaki had a personal record in the discus with a throw of 99-4 to finish first, while Isabelle Ambler prepared herself for an upcoming heptahtlon at Northridge (this Thursday and Friday) by competing in six events and one relay.

Nguyen also continued her strong rookie season by winning the long jump (by a foot) and the triple jump (by two feet).
