Sagehen Relay Team Moves Into Seventh All-Time, Highlights SCIAC Meet

Los Angeles, Calif. - The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Track and Field team saw its 4x400 relay team move into seventh place in school history at SCIAC Quad Meet No. 3 at Occidental.

The Sagehens tied Redlands 81-81 in dual competition at the event, which also featured Chapman, Occidental and Cal Lutheran. Pomona-Pitzer defeated Occidental 89-74  and Chapman 124-31, while falling to Cal Lutheran 101-62.

The team of Katie Barton, Isabelle Ambler, Stassja Sichko and Leslie Rice (pictured) earned a time of 4:03.93 to place third in the meet, taking over the No. 7 spot in Pomona-Pitzer history in the process. Rice also came in fourth place (out of 13) in the individual 400 meters with a 1:01.06.

Barton earned an individual win in the 400-meter hurdles, coming in with a 1:03.30. She was also fourth in the 100 hurdles with a 16.53, while teammate Rhea Jayachandran was second with a 15.87.

Freshman Ailene Nguyen continued her strong rookie campaign with a 12.52 in the 100-meter run, good for second place, just .01 behind Ashley Lively of Redlands in a neck-and-neck race to the finish. She was also third in the 200 meters with a 25.90.  She came in first in the long jump with a jump of 18-1.5 and was second in the triple jump with a 36-8.5. Erin Delaria also added a first-place finish in the pole vault, clearing 10-8.

Sichko and Ambler finished 2-3 in the 800 meters with times of 2:21.61 and 2:22.47, respectively. Claire Brickson was second in the 5000 with a 18:39.40.

In the throwing events, Alex Oxborough-Yankus was first in the javelin with a 106-10, and Ellen Yamasaki won the discus with a 110-0. Oxborough-Yankus was also second in the hammer with a 128-9.
