Nguyen Wins Long Jump, 200 At SCIAC Multi-Meet

Claremont, Calif. - Sophomore Ailene Nguyen (pictured) won both the long jump and the 200 meters to highlight the performance from the Women's Track and Field team at a SCIAC meet with five schools participating on Saturday at Strehle Track.

The Sagehens were officially competing in duals against three of the opposing schools, and defeated Whittier 103-45 and Chapman 116-34, while falling to Redlands 86-76. Whittier (63-55), Redlands (120-34) and Chapman (92-45) each defeated Caltech as well in official duals.

Nguyen ran a 26.88 to finish first in the 200 meters for the Sagehens, and added a jump of 17-1.25 to finish first in that event. She was also second in the triple jump (by just 3/4 of an inch to Lauren Tritz of Redlands) and third in the 100 meters as well on a busy afternoon.

Stassja Sichko came in first for Pomona-Pitzer in the 800 meters with a 2:20.96, and Maya Weigel (4:55.26) and Claire Brickson (5:03.56) were 1-2 in the 1500. Brickson added a win in the 5000 in 19:41.33, while Rhea Jayachandran took first in the 400 (1:09.80) and Cassandra Owen was first in the steeplechase (12:17.36).

Alex Oxborough-Yankus highlighted the field events by finishing first in the javelin with a throw of 107-10. Cat Banobi was second in the 400 meters for Pomona-Pitzer, just missing the 1-minute barrier in 1:00.24.
