Nguyen's Jumps Highlight Pomona-Pitzer Invitational

Claremont, Calif. - Sophomore Ailene Nguyen (pictured) finished second in the long jump and third in the triple jump to highlight the performance of the Women's Track and Field team at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational on Saturday.

Nguyen came in second in the long jump out of 50 competitors with a distance of 17-7, finishing behind only Sharessa Archie of Fresno Pacific from the NAIA, who jumped 18 feet and 1/4 inch. Only two other jumpers reached 17 feet, Christina Cromer (unattached) and Becky Collier of Westmont, who both jumped 17-0.75.

In the triple jump, Nguyen recorded a 37-2.5, placing her third out of 31, behind only unattached jumper Blessing Ufodiama (43-1.5) and Julia Wildenthaler of Division II UC San Diego (37-4).

The other big news for the day was in the 5000, where Claire Brickson finished seventh with a 17:56.45 in a new personal best. That time places her fifth all-time in Pomona-Pitzer history in the event.

Stassja Sichko also had a strong race in the 800 for the Sagehens, coming in 26th place out of 111 with a 2:19.57. Kaile Sauro won her heat in the 400-meter hurdles with a 69.80, placing 17th overall out of 36.
