Track and Field: Distance Medley Relay Sets School Record At Rossi Relays

CLAREMONT, Calif. -- The Pomona-Pitzer women's track and field team competed in the 20th annual Rossi Relays hosted by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at the Burns Track & Field Complex.

The women's distance medley relay team of Abby Gardner, Micaiah Palmer, Kristen Hernandez and Maya Weigel set a new school record of 12:17.24 to break the old mark of 12:27.06 set just last year.

The 4x800 meter relay team of Weigel, Corinna Lee, Julia Faust, and Hernandez clocked 10:07.07 to record the sixth all-time mark in program history.

The Sagehens took 10th in the long jump as Ailene Nguyen finished with a distance of 17-0.75 feet.

Cybele Kappos set a personal best of 118-02 feet to record the #10 all-time mark in the hammer and Jessica Finn placed eighth overall in the javelin throw with a throw of 115-04 feet.

"We set numerous personal records today, which shows we're headed in the right direction," said Head Coach Kirk Reynolds. "But some of our athletes also got a bit overwhelmed with all that goes on in a collegiate meet. We need to maintain our confidence and continue to work on translating the things we do in practice over to our competitions. Our next meet is a scoring SCIAC meet at home on Saturday. We're really looking forward to that."

The Pomona-Pitzer men's track and field team also participated in the CMS Rossi Relays at the Burns Track & Field Complex.

John Fowler finished in third place in the 3000 meter run as he clocked in with a time of 8:34.12.

The men's 4x800 meter relay team recorded the second fastest time at the Rossi Relays with a time of 7:54.99. The 4x400 meter relay team went on to take ninth place with a final time of 3:28.41.

The Sagehens also went on to place seventh in the javelin throw with Calvin Aylward finishing with a throw of 179-07 feet.

The Sagehens next host Redlands, Whittier and Cal Lutheran in a SCIAC Quad Meet on Saturday, March 5th at Strehle Track at 11:00 a.m.
