Women's Track and Field: Sagehens End Day One Of SCIAC Championships In Fourth Place

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Pomona-Pitzer women's track and field team finished day one of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships in fourth place with 38 points, which is just .50 points away from third place La Verne (38.50).

The Sagehens took first place in the Long Jump as senior Ailene Nguyen won the event with a distance of 18-06.50. Nguyen SCIAC win is her third in the event, as she also won SCIAC Long Jump titles in 2015 and 2013, along with a 200m title in 2015. Right behind Nguyen was sophomore Prisca Diala who came in second place with a jump of 17-11.50. Diala also took second last year.

Sophomore Jessica Finn took second place in the Javelin Throw as she threw a distance of 132-10 feet to finish in the runner-up spot for the second year in a row.

Pomona-Pitzer ended the day as Junior Abby Gardner took third place in the 3,000 Meter Steeplechase as she earned All-SCIAC honors clocking in at 11:37.28.

The majority of the events were preliminaries for the finals which will take place on Saturday. The Sagehens will compete in the final day of the SCIAC Championships tomorrow with the track events beginning at 5:00 p.m.
