EAGLE ROCK, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Track & Field Team sent a handful of athletes to Occidental Invite on Saturday, May 11 in hopes of improving their national qualifying marks. Racing against Division I, II, and professional athletes, this meet provided valuable experience for the Sagehens before the NCAA Championship meet.
Lila Cardillo impressed at the meet, winning the 10,000 Meter Run with a time of 36:30.61. She potentially holds a spot in the NCAA Championship with her time being the 21st-best time in the nation.
Helen Guo found herself potentially qualifying for the 5,000 Meter Run in the NCAA after clocking in at 17:03.97, the 12th-best time in the nation. She finished 20th overall at the race. Lauren Hamilton followed in 38th with a time of 17:37.06.
Vicky-Marie Addo-Ashong used the Oxy Meet as an opportunity to stay in rhythm before the National Championship, taking 18th in the 100m Hurdles at 14.93. She also took 10th in the Triple Jump at 36-10.5 (11.24m).
"Lila ran a spectacular race," said Head Coach Kirk Reynolds. "She was patient yet aggressive at the same time. Helen likewise ran a terrifically strong 5k in a time that pretty much ensures she'll be at Nationals. Helen is so tough mentally, and has worked so hard this spring. She's amazing!"
