WHITTIER, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Volleyball team fell to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Whittier 3-0 on Wednesday night.
Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens fall to 3-6 overall and 0-1 in SCIAC play while Whittier improves to 7-2 overall and 1-0 in conference this season.
The Poets took a win over the Sagehens in straight sets as they won by the scores of 25-17, 25-21 and 25-22.
Whittier jumped out to an early lead in the first set as they led 12-4 and forced the Sagehens to call a timeout. Pomona-Pitzer battled back to 18-14 but the Poets ended set one outscoring the Sagehens 7-3 and went up 1-0.
Much like set one, the Poets jumped out to a lead early in set two as they led 10-3 out of the gate. Pomona-Pitzer sparked a 12-3 run and led 15-13 after a kill by Brooke Carlson but the Poets reclaimed the lead shortly to take a 21-20 lead and took four of the last five points to hold a 2-0 advantage.
The Sagehens played a tight third set against the Poets as the lead never grew to more than four points. Pomona-Pitzer cut the lead down to just one point multiple times throughout the third set but the Poets were able to hang on for the win.
Up Next: The Sagehens will next travel to Trinity (Tx.) to take part in the Trinity University Tournament on Friday, September 15th at 3:00 p.m. against East Texas Baptist and 5:00 p.m. against Southwestern.
