The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference named two members of the Pomona-Pitzer Women’s Volleyball to the All-SCIAC team on Monday morning as seniors Vicky-Marie Addo-Ashong and Isabel Kelly were named to the Second Team. Addo-Ashong also received the 2019 SCIAC Character Award for her academic achievements off the court.
The Pomona-Pitzer Women’s Volleyball Team celebrated Senior Day on Friday night, taking time before the game to honor their graduating seniors. Seniors Vicky-Marie Addo-Ashong, Isabel Kelly, Izzy Deatherage, Brooke Carlson, Zaza Apolinario-Chaplin, Jackie Roland, and team manager Yesim Yurteri were honored for their hard work and contributions to the program, bringing excellence on the court and in the classroom.
The Pomona-Pitzer Women’s Volleyball Team dropped a road contest to Cal Lutheran on Tuesday night, falling 3-1 (25-27, 24-26, 25-23, 15-25). The Sagehens battled closely with the Regals, playing until extras in the first two sets and winning the third.
The Pomona-Pitzer Women’s Volleyball Team bounced back with a huge 3-2 victory (25-22, 18-25, 21-25, 25-12, 19-17) over University of La Verne at home on Saturday evening. Trailing 2-1 after three sets, the Sagehens came back with a dominant fourth set and prevailed in the final set that went to extras.
The Pomona-Pitzer Women’s Volleyball Team bounced back with a dominating 3-0 sweep against Occidental College on the road on Saturday night, winning 25-18, 25-20, and 25-18. Vicky-Marie Addo-Ashong led the team with 12 kills and had one solo block with two block assists.
The Pomona-Pitzer Women’s Volleyball Team dropped a five-set thriller on Tuesday night, falling to Caltech 3-2 (25-23, 22-25, 25-20, 22-25, 9-15). Isabel Kelly led the Sagehens’ offense with 18 kills with two solo blocks and two block assists while Adrienne Tong delivered 43 assists.
The Pomona-Pitzer Women’s Volleyball Team fell in three sets against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Friday night, losing by the scores of 20-25, 23-25, and 19-25. Naomi Chen-Mallouk led the attack with 14 kills while Isabel Kelly had 13 kills with two block assists.
The Pomona-Pitzer Women’s Volleyball dropped a road contest to University of La Verne on Tuesday night, falling to the Leopards 3-0 (17-25, 18-25, 20-25). The Sagehens’ attack was led by Vicky-Marie Addo-Ashong who had 10 kills with a .238 kill percentage while Adrienne Tong delivered 33 assists.
The Pomona-Pitzer Women’s Volleyball Team earned their second win in the SCIAC on Tuesday night, defeating Occidental College at home with a 3-0 sweep (25-17, 25-11, 25-19). The Sagehens offense had a hot hitting night, hitting above .230 in all three sets. Naomi Chen-Mallouk led the Sagehens with 15 kills and a highly efficient .367 kill percentage while Gaby Harrison led the team with 16 digs.
The Pomona-Pitzer Women’s Volleyball Team got back on the winning track after defeating Caltech on the road 3-1 (25-19, 25-23, 20-25, 25-10) on Friday night. The Sagehens had a solid game above the net and on the floor, hitting with a .211 kill percentage as a team and making 78 total digs.
The Pomona-Pitzer Women’s Volleyball Team fell to the Chapman University Panthers on Tuesday night, losing 3-1 (21-25, 25-17, 17-25, 18-25). Vicky-Marie Addo-Ashong and Isabel Kelly co-led the team with 14 kills each while Lauren Asato collected 27 digs. Addo-Ashong also led the team in blocks with one solo block and three block assists.

The Pacific Coast Classic ended favorably for the Pomona-Pitzer Women’s Volleyball Team as the Sagehens ended the opening weekend undefeated. The Sagehens opened day two with a gritty 3-2 comeback victory against Wentworth Institute of Technology followed by a dominating 3-0 sweep against Kean University.
Pomona-Pitzer Women’s Volleyball dominated their season openers, pulling off two sweeps on the first day of the Pacific Coast Classic. The Sagehens cruised to an easy 3-0 (25-21, 25-17. 25-20) victory against University of Dallas followed by a 3-0 shutout over Benedictine University (Ill.) (25-20, 25-19, 25-18).
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, Pomona-Pitzer and the University of La Verne are the hosts the 2019 Pacific Coast Classic Volleyball Tournament. The tournament features 15 programs from across the country to compete in a total of 30 games over two days, August 30-August 31.
