Women's Water Polo: Sagehens Leave Chapman With 12-6 Win Over Panthers

ORANGE, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Water Polo team defeated Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Chapman 12-6 on Wednesday night at the Allred Aquatics Center.

Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 18-12 overall and remain unbeaten at 13-0 in SCIAC play.

The Sagehens had four players with multi-goal games as Bella Villa, Kahea Kahaulelio, Janelle Lewis and Nadia Paquin all notched two goals in the win.

The Panthers started out the game with the advantage as they opened up with back-to-back goals off of powerplays to take a 2-0 lead in the first. Pomona-Pitzer battled back with three-straight goals to end the first as Villa, Paquin, and Allison Sullivan Wu put the Sagehens up one at 3-2 heading into the second. Chapman opened up the second with a goal to tie the game at 3-3 but the Sagehens answered with a goal from Villa as both teams put one goal on the board to head into halftime with the Sagehens up 4-3.

Pomona-Pitzer had its offense working in the second half as they netted four goals in both the third and fourth periods. The Sagehens opened up the third with three-straight goals from Lucie Abele, Paquin and Lewis to extend the lead to 7-3.  Chapman broke up the goal streak but the Sagehens ended the third with a goal from Kahaulelio to take an 8-4 lead into the fourth.

The Sagehens didn't stop their offense in the fourth as they continued to score goals against the Panthers' defense. Both teams exchanged goal to open the period as Lewis and Kahaulelio scored their second goals of the game to move the lead to 10-6 lead. The Sagehens then added two more goals at the end of the fourth by Jessie Nesbit and Katherine Cullen to keep their unbeaten streak alive in a big road win over Chapman.
