CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Cross Country team hosted the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational at Strehle Track and finished in second place (99 points) behind meet-winner Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Saturday morning. Every school in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) were present at the meet as well as a couple Division II and NAIA programs.
A 6K race, the course extended from Sixth Street and the tennis courts to the Pomona-Pitzer Soccer Stadium, with several loops around the soccer field and Strehle Track. The Sagehens saw two runners finish within the top-10, including Lauren Hamilton who took second overall at 21:41.17.
Bryn McKillop of CMS took first overall at 21:24.99 as the Athenas won the meet with 33 points. Redlands took third at 111 followed by St. Benedict at 128.
"Today we saw amazing performances from everyone," said Interim Head Coach Emma Delira. "The team stepped up and showed that they are ready for the championship portion of the season. From the start of the race, Lauren and Helen took charge and pulled up ahead and ran according to plan. The rest of the team did the same."
"Knowing that regionals will be held at home, we wanted to make sure that we raced hard and as a pack, which was asked of our veterans Kristen and Maddie to execute in leading the rest of the team. It will be an exciting month as we prepare for the SCIAC Championship."
Up Next: The Sagehens will take a break next weekend and compete again on Saturday, October 28 at the SCIAC Championship at Prado Park at 9:45 a.m.
