CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Cross Country Program will start their season this Saturday at the PP-La Verne-Occidental Tri Meet held at Strehle Track at 8:30 a.m. After seeing two runners compete in the NCAA National Championship, the Sagehens are ready to build upon last season's success to race to the top of the SCIAC.
"We aim to make some noise this year," said Head Coach Kirk Reynolds. "With the addition of some talented first years, we will be a better team than last year."
The Sagehens finished last season in fourth place in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, with then-sophomores Lauren Hamilton and Helen Guo taking third and fifth overall, respectively. The team also took sixth overall in the NCAA West Regional Meet where Hamilton took second overall and Guo took 10th. The Hens produced their best result at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational, taking second place after seeing four runners finish within the top-50.
Helen Guo and Lauren Hamilton will return for their junior season and look to improve upon the great success they had last year. The two runners took All-West Region honors and First Team All-SCIAC last year and ran in the NCAA Championship. Hamilton finished 13th overall at the meet, clocking in at 21:05.30 and took All-American honors. Guo finished 79th overall with a time of 22:05.40. Maddie Bennet will rejoin the team for her senior season after ending last season with a 71st place finish at the NCAA West Regional at 24:34.49.
The program added a handful of talented first year runners who will help the Sagehens climb up the standings in their upcoming meets and earn a spot in the Nationals.
