CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Cross Country Team excelled at their home meet, taking first overall at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational on Saturday morning after scoring 48 points. Three Sagehens finished within the top-10. Junior Helen Guo took first overall in the 6K course, clocking in at 21:46.1 while first year Lila Cardillo finished in third at 22:16.8.
"Helen ran a wonderful race to win individually, and Lila moved all the way up to third place," said Head Coach Kirk Reynolds. "They ran very controlled early on with teammates, and then turned on the jets late in the race."
"Our team was also bolstered by the return of veterans Lauren and Maddie. Both have had lengthy injuries that have kept them out for months, so it was heartwarming to see them competing in uniform again. They've worked so hard to get back. This sets us up nicely for the heart of the season coming up: Pre-Nationals and then the Conference Championships. We're getting ready to race!"
First year Genevieve DiBari took 12th overall at 23:09.9 and her classmate Madison Ellis followed in 25th at 23:49.6. Rosie Linkus took 34th after clocking in at 24:08.7 and Madeleine Mount-Cors took 51st at 24:38.3.
Up Next: A select number of the Pomona-Pitzer Women's Cross Country Team will travel to Oshkosh, Wisconsin to compete in the NCAA Pre-Nationals on Saturday, October 13th at 11:20 a.m.
