CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Cross Country Team impressed in their season opener, clinching the top four spots in the Pomona-Pitzer/Oxy Dual Meet on Saturday morning. The Sagehens won the dual meet over Occidental College, scoring 16 points, while the Tigers finished with 46.
"I thought we ran exceptionally well today for being so early in the season," said Head Coach Kirk Reynolds. "We showed maturity and patience, both of which we'll need later in the season. We also showed that we did some terrific summer training to prepare for this fall season. As we've discussed as a team, we're pointing for our squad to be at its best in November. Today shows that our bus is going in the right direction."
The Sagehens saw eight runners within the top-10. Sophomore Rosie Linkus finished at the top in the 4k course, clocking in at 15:16.00, while her classmate Genevieve DiBari took second at 15:17.00. Last season's All-American Lila Cardillo finished also tied in second with a time of 15:17.00 while senior Helen Guo took fourth at 15:21.00. Madeleine Mount-Cors placed sixth at 15:36.00 and Sophia West placed seventh at 15:40.00. First year Ela Nickels had an impressive collegiate debut, taking ninth at 15:44.00 and her classmate Abigail Loiselle took 10th at 15:53.00.
