CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Cross Country had a solid showing at the SCIAC Championship on Saturday morning, as Lila Cardillo and Helen Guo finished first and second overall, respectively. The Sagehens finished second as a team with 64 points while Claremont-Mudd-Scripps took first at 37 points. The Sagehens saw three runners total finish within the top-20, earning All-SCIAC honors.
" I'm so impressed with Lila's and Helen's races," said Head Coach Kirk Reynolds. "They worked very well together to control the race and end up 1-2. This is a potent duo at both Regionals and Nationals."
Cardillo earned her first career SCIAC individual championship with a final time of 21:40.0 while her teammate Helen Guo finished right behind at 21:50.2. Abigail Loiselle followed in 19th in her first SCIAC Championship meet with a time of 23:19.3. Madeleine Mount-Cors took 24th overall at 23:34.4 and Ela Nickels finished 27th at 23:46.1. Rosie Linkus crossed in 30th overall at 23:55.5 and Lilly Bar ended in 37th at 24:13.7.
"We will be back here in two weeks on our home course, pursuing a team berth to Nationals, and we need to stop thinking and worrying about every little detail being perfect," said Coach Reynolds. "We've been training for months to get to this part of the season. We just need to lace up our racing shoes and trust that we know what to do."
Up Next: The Sagehens will race again on Saturday, November 16 at the NCAA West Regionals on Strehle Track at 10:00 a.m.
