CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Cross Country team finished in second place at the NCAA West Regionals hosted by Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday morning, and the team qualified for the National Championships next weekend.
This marked the first time ever that all seven Pomona-Pitzer runners were awarded All-Region, as all placed within the top-35.
The Sagehens walked away with the second best team score at 66 and also claimed second and third places individually, as Lila Cardillo finished as the runner-up with a time of 21:29.6 and Helen Guo took third at 21:40.7.
Abigail Loiselle and Madeleine Mount-Cors finished back-to-back with Loiselle in a tie for 18th at 23:17.3 and Mount-Cors in 20th with a time of 23:18.1. Ela Nickels took 23rd with a time of 23:26.2 while Lilly Bar followed with a 31st place finish at 23:40.6 followed by Sophia West in 34th at 23:44.2.
"Every woman ran spectacularly today – one through seven." said Head Coach Kirk Reynolds. "We were tough and gritty, and competed hard, and this team deserves the chance to race at Nationals. We were only 15 points away from first place, so we closed the gap from our conference championship meet. We had some runners place higher here today at Regionals than they placed at our conference meet, which is amazing. Now we head to Nationals where we want to compete hard against everyone else. What an amazing opportunity to be able to go as a team and race the best teams in the nation for the second year in a row."
Up Next: The Sagehens will next run at the NCAA Championship on November 23rd in Louisville, KY at 8:45 AM.
